Humans have been loving and eating ice cream and similar frozen desserts for a long time. A big step in the history of ice cream was the invention of what is now called soft serve. The History of Soft Serve

There are several competing stories about how soft serve ice cream came about. To be honest, no one knows which one is true, and it really doesn’t matter. Sometimes things are invented simultaneously, and that might very well be the case with soft serve.

  • Thomas Cavellus and Carvel Thomas sold ice cream out of his truck in New York, and when the truck got a flat tire one day in 1934 he decided to start selling the soft, partially melted ice cream as something different. Turns out it was a huge hit, and he built the first Carvel Frozen CUstard store in 1934. He also worked on machinery till he had the perfect soft serve machine
