For many businesses, a trade show can be an important part of the sales and marketing strategy. Trade shows are attended by important vendors, industry experts and even potential customers. Having a booth at a trade show to get your company’s name out there and show off products can be a good way to boost sales. If you are going to shell out the money for a booth and spend the time planning for and setting up a booth, there are some things you should consider to make your trade show trek a success.

The top three goals for most companies that go to trade shows are brand awareness, lead generation and relationship building, so those factors have to be kept in mind when you are purchasing a trade show booth and selecting its location. There are a number of things to consider when selecting a location. Do you want to be located near your competitors, on the theory that you are likely to draw more visitors if people are actively looking for companies in your business, or do you want to be off by yourself so that you stand out more. Another consideration is how much you want to spend on a booth. Trade show exhibit space that is on the perimeters and near the entrance and exit doors typically sells for a premium compared with booths that are farther in the interior of the show.

Another big consideration is what kind of trade show display design you will use. Most trade shows have fairly strict requirements when it comes to trade show display design and what elements can and can’t be used. Those requirements usually mandate uniformity for things like size and placement while allowing some leeway for individual company-specific fonts, colors and logos. When considering what elements to use in your convention displays, you want to keep in mind the distance rule. You want some signage that is big enough to draw the eyes of people far away while using more detailed signage for people who are closer to your booth.

Making the right decisions about location and signage for your trade show booth will help ensure that your time exhibiting is as successful as possible and brings in enough contacts and sales to justify the expenditure.
