Since the economy crashed in 2008, it’s been difficult for people to find jobs. There were a lot of people left unemployed and many are still being affected to this day. Without a degree, it can be difficult to get a job that can support yourself and possibly a family. In order to get a good paying job, you’ll need to try and think outside the box. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Cannabis Consultants
Medical marijuana consulting services have because quite a popular job. While you don’t need a college degree to get started as cannabis consultants, you may need to go through a few classes, certifications and background checks. However, anyone can go through those and often times, depending on the company you are looking to work for, they may help you as far as expenses go. Cannabis consultants do a number of different things but they do not actually sell the medical marijuana. Cannabis consultants give advice, that’s the long and short of it. They give advice to marijuana business start ups, to those needing to get medical marijuana cards and much more. You can either be an independent contractor, where you basically work for yourself or you can get hooked up with a consulting company. Working for a company will give you a little more credibility then if you are on your own.
Web Developer
Surprisingly, it is not a requirement to be a web developer. Of course, you should have some knowledge of how the Internet works before stepping into an interview so some classes might not be amiss but you don’t have to have these in order to get hired. It’s not a dead end job either, there is a lot of room for growth and improvement and climbing the corporate ladder. The Internet industry is a fast paced environment so the main thing is that you need to know how to keep up and not get left behind. As long as you can do that, then you should be just fine. You could even end up making more money than someone who did go to college.
Surveyor
A surveyor is someone who goes out to land and areas after they have been bought and takes pictures and measurements in order to take them back to the architect who is drawing up the blue prints. These measurements are needed in order to draw a ‘to scale’ blueprint before the building even starts. One of the main responsibilities of a surveyor is that they properly establish the construction boundaries and perimeters so that there are no legal disputes that come up mid project. A surveyor can make an average of $55,000 a year and yes, that is without a college degree!
Architecture Drafter
Drafters make use of different programs in order to convert designs that have been made by engineers and architects into digital drawings. Technical drawings help design an entire range of things from microchips to skyscraper buildings. Drafters most often deal specifically in civil, electrical, architectural or mechanical drafting. Typically, drafters have an associate’s degree but many employers have stated that a degree is not on the top of the list of criteria. They believe there are other things that are more important.
Online Advertising
As an online advertising manager you can make an average of $87,000 a year, believe it or not. Of course, you may have to work your way up to management but you don’t need a degree to get the promotions that will lead you there. Just get your foot in the door with any kind of advertising position and work hard to move up.
An of these jobs could be gotten without a degree, that’s what makes them so great. However, you may not be able to just jump right in. Class, courses, licensing and hard work will get you where you need to go but you’ll have to be patient. Having a good work ethic and self motivation is crucial to moving up the ladder in any industry that you choose. Keep in mind also that you are never to old to go to college if that’s what you want. Then the world will really be open to you.
